Sheet
K4/14
|
Following on from the review of Kits At War Decal sheet
K7/14 by Damian Coburn we received a number of other decal sheets
from the Kits At War range. This sheet covers a number of both RAAF
and South African Air Force aircraft in 1/48. The decals come in a
plastic ziplock bag with a double sided colour instruction sheet. The
Kits at War range covers Commonwealth aircraft from during WWII as
well as post war. The number of different aircraft types and countries
covered by Kits At War is quite extensive so you will have to look
at the site to browse through them all. The company itself is based
in the Netherlands and produces the Kits at War range of Decals as
well as a series of 'History, Camouflage and Markings profiles of Dutch
aircraft, it also formerly produced the Dutch Decals range.
The instruction sheet is a double sided colour sheet that shows the
placement of the decals supplied as well as suggestions for the paint
colours and the kit to use for the model. For the Marauder Mk
1 it also gives some ideas on what would be involved to convert a Monogram/Revell
kit to the Mk 1 version. For some of the conversion you will definately
have to do some research to find out the total conversion required eg
the Lightning Mk 1.
The decals cover the following aircraft:
a. Marauder Mk 1 FK375, D, No 14 SQN RAF, Egypt 1942. Dark Earth/Middle
Stone/Azure Blue scheme.
b. Marauder Mk III (B-26G), HD610, K, No 39 SQN RAF, Biferno/Rivolto
Italy 1944 - '46. Olive Drab / Nuetral Grey scheme.
c. Marauder Mk II (B-26C), FB443, K, No 24 SQN SAAF, Nth Africa
1944. Olive
Drab / Nuetral Grey scheme.
d. P-38J Lightning 44-23517 DPA, RAF 1944. Used by the Co of RAF Coningsby
for experimental flights with Bomber formations. Overall bare metal with
some parts in former PRU scheme.
e. Lockheed Lightning I (P-322), AE979, Burbank USA 1942. Painted in the
RAF scheme of Dk Earth / Dk Green / Sky.
f. Lancaster Mk III AR*A2, ED664, No 460 SQN RAAF, Binbrook Sept
1943.
Dark Earth / dark Green / Black scheme.
g. Lancaster Mk III AR*E, DV175, No 460 SQN RAAF, Binbrook Sept
1943. Dark
Earth / Dark Green / Black scheme.
h. PV-1 Ventura G, JS953, No 17 SQN SAAF, Port Elizabeth Sth Africa
1945. Sea Blue / Intermediate Blue / Night Black scheme.
As you can see this sheet covers a large variety of aircraft and schemes. The
decal sheet only provides you with those not supplied by the kit sheets
so don't dispose of the kit decals! You are supplied with two sheets
for this set, one main sheet which includes white backing and the other
small sheet that provides two extra decals. The main sheet is a standard
type sheet of decals that are separated (not continuous sheeting) and
they look quite good. The second small sheet has only two decals on it
and is continuous sheet so you have to trim them carefully.
This is an impressive collection of decals on one sheet! This array
may be the sets only real downfall as it covers a great variety of countries
and types that may not be used by one modeller. My only other real concern
at this stage is that the sheet seems to like sticking to the bag it
comes in! This may just be the lovely weather we are currently having
here in Wodonga but it may cause problems in the future. Other than those
small concerns I think that this is a good sheet that covers an area
of interest for Australian modellers that few other companies cover (the
Lancaster in RAAF service) as well as a good variety of RAF and SAAF
aircraft.
I am unsure of the availability in Australia but they can be ordered
direct from the company.

At War Decals.
