This new release set of decals from High Planes Models consists of three different Beaufighter Mk1c in 1/48 scale. These decals are produced for High Planes Models by Hawkeye Models Australia.

The instructions

The instructions consist of two A4 sheets with side and top views of the different aircraft available in this set as well as four original shots of the Beaufighter Mk 1c. They also give short suggestions on how to convert the standard Tamiya kit to the Mk 1c. There is also a conversion kit available from CMK to do the change over to this version of the aircraft. The instructions are slightly vague in my opinion over which roundels are to be used with which aircraft. They mention about using dark and faded decals on certain aircraft but I am unsure of how many complete sets of markings there are. To that end, I think there is one, possibly two complete sets of markings for the Mk 1c. This is my biggest problem with after market decals in that there is not enough markings included in each set of decals to produce all the options.

The decals

The decals are for the following aircraft:

  • Beaufighter Mk1c A19-87 (R) of No 30 SQN in RAF Dark Earth / Dark Green / Sky undersides.

  • Beaufighter Mk 1c A19-34 ( LY D)of No 30 SQN in 1943/44. The aircraft is in the RAF Dark Earth / Dark Green / Sky undersides.

  • Beaufighter A19-40 (EH G) from 31 SQN in RAAF Foilage Green / Earth Brown / Sky Blue colours.

The review decals were found to be produced in the usual high standard I have come to expect of Hawkeye Models Australia. Once again they are constructed in two layers for those markings requiring white background.

This is the first time that I have seen markings produced for the Mk 1c Beaufighter and hopefully more of will be on the way. They are of good quality and are beautifully printed and apart from the problem I mentioned earlier, the instructions are quite clear and helpful.
