As photographed on patrol with 452 sq off the Halmaheras Islands 30 December 1944. Flt Lt L. Crompton at the controls. Photos in Pentland, ADF serials and AWM.

Scheme

Foliage green (with a touch of black added) over sky blue. The story behind the two kill flags under the cockpit is unknown to me. Aircraft has prominent exhaust staining and the white theatre markings look badly chipped.

History
/ Significance

This aircraft received wing damage from 40mm AA during a strafing attack in April 1945 but landed safely with Wing Commander R.H. Gibbs uninjured. On 17 July 1945 Flt Sgt B.F. Gurney returning to Sepinggan Strip, Balikpapan, misjudged landing and touched short. The aircraft burned after the pilot escaped. Converted to components. (Source ADF serials).

Revell MkIX (Re-boxed Hasegawa including parts for MkVIII). True details tyre/wheels and seat with belts. Kagero decals. Nova Scale roundels. WEM paints used for foliage green and sky blue. Tamiya buff used for exhaust staining.
